The late Willie Ryle.

THE death has taken place of well known former businessman, Willie Ryle.

Mr Ryle, of Somerville, The Spa, died yesterday. The 79-year old had been suffering from Parkinson’s Disease for about 18 years and fought it bravely, but took a turn for the worse over the past month or so.

He owned and ran ‘Willie Ryle’ Menswear on Castle Street for over 35 years and dressed the great and good of the county and beyond for all occasions.

People used to come to his shop from as far away as Dublin and even Northern Ireland to buy their clothes.

Willie was also known, far and wide, for his love of life and its finer things.

A great storyteller and bon vivant, he had a great love for cooking – even taking a course in Ballymaloe Cookery School – and was  famous for his brown bread.

He was also a connoisseur when it came to wines and loved to entertain.

Willie retired when he sold his business in 2001 to Michael Moran, who now operates ‘Ryle’ on Ashe Street, having moved just a few months ago from the Castle Street premises.

He is survived by wife Violet, sons Thomas and Mike, daughter Sally, grandchildren, relatives and wide circle of friends.

The funeral arrangements are as follows: The Gleasure Funeral Home on Wednesday from 3.15pm to 6.15pm. Removal at 6.15pm to St. John’s Church, Tralee. Requiem Mass on Thursday at 12 noon.

Interment afterwards in Rath Cemetery. Donations in lieu of flowers to The Parkinson’s Association of Ireland c/o The Gleasure Funeral Home.

House private.
