A TRALEE couple received an amazing reaction after several media appearances in the last week where they got to show off their innovative business.

Joanna and Derek Kelly of Digital Greetings, based at HQ Tralee, featured on Today FM’s Dermot and Dave Show on Monday, TV3’s Ireland AM show on Friday morning and on a feature on entrepreneurs on The Late Late Show that night.

On Friday night, they got over 2,000 hits on their website after appearing on the Late Late Show, with the attention only escalating over the next few days .

“The reaction was unbelievable,” said Derek. “All day Saturday, all day Sunday, phone calls, emails…we’re kind of chasing our tails now at the moment!” he joked.

Rehearsals for The Late Late Show started at 5.30pm on Friday so they had a few hours to prepare for the night ahead. Host Ryan Tubridy was “lovely”.

“He made us really comfortable and at ease. It was great,” said Joanna.

After the show on Friday night, the couple got to relax after with the other entrepreneurs that featured on the show.

Derek and Joanna got the inspiration for the business while planning their own wedding. They wanted something to impress their guests but didn’t want to just send a video by email, they wanted to send a physical copy.

And so, they came up with the idea for the company, selling digital greeting cards with a lcd screen built in the card.

They now do greeting cards, invitations and business cards along with much more. They can upload video or pictures and music to the card and for your loved ones to enjoy (see video below to see how it works).

“The biggest challenge is getting the message across,” said Joanna Kelly, “Wouldn’t you like to get a birthday card like that? But without seeing it, you don’t know it’s there.”

Now they are focusing their energy on getting the Digital Greeting Cards into tourist offices.

They are looking to work with Fáilte Ireland and other tourist groups to stock the product in tourist offices.

The couple are enlisting local photographers and videographers to capture beautiful images of Kerry, and eventually, the Wild Atlantic Way. Digital Greetings will also feature on Radio Kerry this week. For more info, see their website www.digitalgreetings.ie here
