HERE’S a reminder of a great event this weekend to get you active, dressed up and feeling great.

This year’s Tralee Santa 5k Fun Run will take place on Sunday at 11am from the Tralee Bay Wetlands and once again, runners, joggers, walkers, cyclists and pets alike are welcome to take part.

This year’s run is for a very special local cause, as organisers have decided to donate proceeds to the childrens’ ward at University Hospital Kerry.

“Our aim is to provide chair beds, designed especially for the hospital environment, which will allow any parent to get a comfortable night sleep while having to spend a night beside their sick child,” said one of the organisers, Mags O’Regan Quillinan.

“The staff at Cashel Ward have identified this as a priority for them and are delighted that the Tralee Santa Fun Run has joined with them to help raise funds for this most necessary cause,” said Mags.Mags O’Regan Quillinan with Cara Kirby and Sophie Quillinan looking forward to this year’s Santa 5k Fun Run.”Each year we hold the Tralee Santa Fun Run in memory of Fiona Moore, and Fiona and her parents, and indeed many other Kerry parents spent many a night in Cashel Ward. We hope that this year, the fifth such event, will be as popular as ever with the people of Kerry,” she said.

The previous beneficiaries were Make-a –Wish, Heart Children Ireland, Barretstown and Ronald McDonald House. To date, just under €40,000 has been collected for these charities. To register for this year’s event please click here
