CENSUS 2016 takes place on April 24 and the Central Statistics Office have announced that they’re looking for enumerators in Kerry.
The application process for census enumerators will open on January 5 at 9am.
There will be 167 enumerators recruited in Co. Kerry with a total of 4,660 enumerators nationwide to deliver and collect more than 2.3 million forms across a ten week period.
Applications will be taken online between Tuesday January 5 and Friday, January 8 or when the number of applicants reaches 15,000.
Teddy Foley was an enumerator in Kerry for the 2011 Census. He said: “I really enjoyed meeting and greeting people from all walks of life, and discussing the problems and issues that affect people on a day to day basis. I got to communicate with a wide spectrum of society from the elderly, the young people, the working mums, the retired , the businessman, etc. The whole experience is very energizing and empathizing with the community that you live in really makes you living in the moment”.
According to Deirdre Cullen, Head Statistician at the CSO, “Demand for these posts is always incredibly high. If you are interested in becoming a census enumerator, you are strongly advised to apply early.”
Enumerators are paid a fixed fee for the delivery and collection of census forms in their area along with fixed allowances for training, home storage, Sunday working, terminal bonus and travel. Enumerators will earn approximately €2,400 for the ten week period.
All enumerators are required to be signed up as Officers of Statistics which forbids them from divulging any information obtained as part of their official duties.
