THE Fenit Lifeboat cycle will take place on Saturday, May 7 and people are invited to take part in the popular event which has been going for a number of years now.

Around 85 people took part last year in glorious weather conditions and organisers are hoping for more of the same this time around.

The cycle will start at O’Donnell’s Bar & Restaurant in Mounthawk at 10.30am (registration 9.15am to 10.15am), travel to Farranfore, Castleisland and finish up back at O’Donnell’s where refreshments will be provided.

The distance is 50km and minimun entry fee is €30. It is not necessary to fill in a sponsorship card, but for this and any other enquiries please phone Phyl at 087 6810368.

The Fenit Lifeboat Station has two boats – an inshore boat for rescues close to the shore and a big All Weather Lifeboat for rescues further out at sea.

Crew and management are all volunteers. Last year the boat launched 24 times and 14 lives were saved. This cycle is one of our main fundraising activities of the year – along with the Christmas Day swim in Fenit and Flag Day in the town in the Summer.
