SIAMSA Tíre is to host the opening of an exhibition of paintings, drawings and different objects by the artist Antonio Julio López Castro on Friday September 25 at 6pm.
The exhibition which is entitled ‘A Measure of Things’ is comprised of a number of projects that Antonio has worked on over the past few years which explore and examine the shared interest of the habitat in which we live.
Antonio, who is himself a former resident of Tralee, is understandably delighted to be in a position to present his own personal view of nature and how individuals interact with it.
He is hoping that his exhibition will give viewers an opportunity to reflect on their own relationship with their natural surroundings.
“My current landscape paintings and drawings concentrate primarily on created environments and man-made features of the landscape: dwellings, forestry, farm land. Departing from an interest in the romantic representation and idealization of the landscape, I look at how we use, alter, and relate to the land around us,” said Antonio.
“These works result in a personal perception of our natural surroundings, reflecting on our simultaneous connection and detachment from the natural world,” he finished.
The ‘A Measure of Things’ exhibition by Antonio Julio López Castro continues until Friday 27th of March with the galleries at Siamsa Tíre open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 6pm and admission is free.
