Following reports from local residents of cars gathering late at night in the Killarney District, Gardaí from Killarney set up an operation targeting drivers who congregate and drive dangerously on the roads.

Four cars were seized under Section 41 of the Road Traffic Act for having no Tax/Insurance. All other persons who were present were directed to leave the area by Gardaí.
The people who had gathered at Muckross Road were also well beyond the 20km limit and were outside of the county they reside in. Gardaí are still approaching all COVID related incidents using the 4 E’s – engage, explain, encourage, and as a last resort, enforce. In this instance, Gardaí used existing legislation, the Road Traffic Act, to enforce the matter.
Superintendent Flor Murphy said; “Ensuring road safety is a key priority for An Garda Síochána and it is also a personal responsibility for everyone who gets behind the wheel of a car. Anyone who is caught driving dangerously, particularly people who meet up with the sole aim of performing dangerous maneuvers in cars on the roads, will be dealt with under the full weight of the law.”
