Garda Warning About Another Phone Scam

garda_1GARDAI are warning the public about another phone scam.

A woman contacted Tralee Garda Station, saying they were called by a man this morning, with a middle eastern accent, claiming to be from an Irish bank headquarters. The call was made to a landline.

The caller had the person’s name and address, which gardaí say they must have found in the phone book.

He said he wanted to send the person out a new credit card because their old one was being replaced.

The person was suspicious so hung up on him. It is not the policy of banks to call customers to request personal information regarding the sending out of new credit cards.

The number that showed up on her phone was 01 800 900 800.
