THE Institute of Technology, Tralee held its annual Scholarships & Awards Evening on Thursday, December at 7pm at the North Campus.
Forty students received awards at the event held to honour sports, academic and civic engagement.
Awards and scholarships presented on the evening included President’s Civic Spirit Award (Civic Engagement), Tom Mc Ellistrim Memorial Award (Academic), Kennedy Coaches (Sport – Gaelic), Tralee RFU (Sport – Rugby), Munster Bursary (Sport – GAA), Kerry Bursary (Sport – GAA) and IT Tralee Sports Scholarships (Sports – GB – Mixed).

Speaking on the night IT Tralee Sports Officer Jennifer Healy said; “These awards allow us to celebrate sporting achievement while also ensuring that a generation of athletes are supported through their educational careers.”
IT Tralee President Oliver Murphy said; “The IT Tralee has a proud history of sporting achievement and this shows no sign of slowing down. The sports scholarships are an integral part of the Institute and continue to ensure we attract the best talent in the region. Our thanks go out to our partners and sponsors for ensuring that we can support these students through their academic and sporting pursuits.”
The scholarships reward excellence and encourage outstanding performance in a variety of fields.
Scholarships are provided in recognition of academic excellence and some are awarded to talented sports athletes and performers/artists.

This bursary is awarded annually to a first year student from Kerry registered on the Institute’s Nursing programme who has received the highest CAO points entering the General Nursing Programme at the Institute.
The 2016 recipient of this scholarship is Megan Lynch, BSc in General Nursing 1st year.
