A WORLD famous web games developer will be a special guest of the IT Tralee next month where she will share her expertise with students and lecturers.

The visit of Ms Brenda Romero follows on from the auspicious beginning to last year’s academic year when students from the ITT welcomed television star Graham Norton.

Ms Romero has been awarded a Fulbright Fellowship to travel from the United States to work with Ireland’s game industry. Mary Lucey from the ITT stated that the Institute is delighted to welcome such a high-calibre name from the gaming world.

“She will spend the first week of classes at the Institute where she will provide a mixture of seminar sessions for students, lecturers and industry. She will also undertake workshops and also give a lecture from one of her Games Development Conferences,” said Ms Lucey.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for all to engage with a top-class world renowned game designer and developer,” she said.

Ms Romero is best known for her work on the Wizardy series role-playing video games and more recently, the non-digital series The Mechanic is the Message.

She has worked in games development since 1981 and has credits on 22 games titles.

Open sessions will also be organised for guests to attend. The Department of Computing and Creative Media will also invite secondary school students who are interested in pursuing a career in the design and development of games to meet Ms Romero.

She will be at the college on September 15, 16 and 17.
