AN Oakpark resident is €11,000 richer after he scooped the Na Gaeil GAA Club lotto jackpot recently.

The lotto had not been won in 95 weeks so John, a west Cork native and former employee of Kerry Group, was surprised and delighted to learn he had won the prize.

John, the current captain of Tralee Golf Club, was in the clubhouse on Tuesday night to accept his cheque from Pat O’Connor (who sold him the ticket) and other members of the Na Gaeil lotto committee.

Chairman of Na Gaeil GAA, Tim Lynch, was delighted for John and said it was nice to see a person living locally take home the jackpot.

“Well it has to be won sometime. The lotto is a vital fundraiser for the club and it’s great when the jackpot is high as it generates more interest. There’s only 28 numbers to choose from in the lotto and €200 in prizes is given out every week even when it isn’t won,” said Tim, who said the club is in a very healthy position at the moment.

“The club is in a great place now. We have two players turning out for the Kerry seniors, we’re in Division 1 of the county league, our ladies got to the All-Ireland semi-final and our Scór group is in the All-Ireland this weekend.”
