TWELVE new Garda cars will be arriving in Kerry this year.
Already six have been issued in the county with a further six to hit the roads of Kerry in the coming weeks.
In addition to this 2015 allocation, €27.5 million was invested in new Garda vehicles nationally between 2012 and 2014.
“Our local Gardaí will be really bolstered by this influx of new vehicles, which is part of the Government’s comprehensive plan to fight crime” said Minister for the Diaspora, Jimmy Deenihan TD, welcoming the news this week..
As well as increasing the number of Garda vehicles, the Garda training college in Templemore has recently been reopened.
“It is great to see Templemore rejuvenated again with 300 new students entering the college last September and another 250 recruits starting their training this year, bringing the total to 550,” said Minister Deenihan.
