Killeen Road In Darkness For Seventh Night In A Row

.
Killeen Road in darkness tonight.

A STRETCH of the Killeen Road is in darkness for a week now resulting in a dangerous situation for road users and pedestrians.

The road affected stretches from the roundabout at Shanakill to just beyond Gaelscoil Mhic Easmainn school.

A local resident contacted us today to say she rang Kerry County Council about it, but was told since Airtricity have the contract for the lighting, it is their responsibility to fix it.

The resident lodged the fault report with Airtricity on Monday, but nothing has been done since. It is particularly dangerous as children have activities at night at Scoil Mhic Easmainn and there are pedestrian crossings on the stretch of road affected which are virtually unusable while the lights are out.

Mayor of Tralee, Cllr Terry O’Brien, has expressed his anger in the past at Airtricity’s performance in tending to the street lights, at a meeting of the council earlier this year.

The tender for supplying the street lighting is due this year and Mayor O’Brien feels the council is being taken for granted by the current suppliers.
