THE community of Kilmoyley gathered for an unveiling of the wonderful work of two local artists last Thursday at Lerrig Reservoir.

As part of the ‘Love Your Waters’ initiative, Tidy Towns Kilmoyley commissioned the artists, Sandra Griffin and Seánie Horan, to collaborate on the theme of cherishing and saving our water.

Having welcomed everyone to the occasion, Tidy Towns Chairperson Padraig Regan invited the artists to explain how the process evolved.

Sandra spoke about how she loves the area, feels very proud to live in Kilmoyley and was delighted to be asked by Tidy Towns member John Fitzgerald to be involved.

.

She loved working with another artist on the design and there was friendly banter involved in the creative process. Sandra painted a seascape of glorious waves crashing onto a shoreline which was accompanied by the lyrics of the local song “Kilmoyley By The Sea”.

Having painted a number of various of other pieces of artwork including Lerrig Cross and Brick’s Cottage, fellow local artist, Seanie Horan’s piece took the form of Aquarius, the symbol of water.

.

He mentioned how he included the water drops on the ivy leaves of the painting to also symbolise the theme.

Both Sandra and Seanie simultaneously cut a ribbon to unveil the artwork. This was followed by refreshments of tea, sandwiches, freshly baked pastries and lots of chat at An Tochar Bán pub.
