ST Michael’s Drama Group Lixnaw will present the hilarious comedy “The Maiden Aunt”, written by Irish playwright Jimmy Keary, at An Ceolann, Lixnaw running for four nights from Thursday, February 16 to Sunday, February 19.
With a cast of eight, the play, directed by Mike O’Halloran, revolves around Gertie O’Grady, played by Sonia Elston, a retired teacher and spinster who has come to stay with her niece Mary Murphy (Karen Corridan) and her family after a spell in hospital.

Mary tries to persuade her Aunt to make a will but her husband Dan hatches an elaborate plan to swindle the estate with shambolic results.
The group have been rehearsing since November and the cast are excited to showcase the comedic writing for which Jimmy Keary is renowned in Ireland.
After a break of a year, the group have reformed and welcomes some new cast members alongside veterans of the group.
The other cast members include Chrissy Scanlon, Tony McCarthy, James Conway, Kevin McElligott, Jermiah O’Sullivan, Cecilla Conway and Shona Murphy (Female understudy). The show is produced by Muiris McCarthy and his team. Tickets at €10 will be available at the door from 7.45pm each night with curtains up at 8.15pm.
