IT seems there has been a massive migration of little furry intruders to Tralee homes in the last month.

Many homes have had to deal with a mouse or two on their doorstep, so much so that hardware stores in the town have seen mouse traps and other rodent repellents scurry out the door.

“This year we’ve had people coming in buying mousetraps more so than ever,” said Kevin Benner of Benner’s Hardware on Bridge Street.

“The amount of mousetraps we’ve sold has gone out of proportion altogether. I suppose we have 1,000 traps sold in the past four weeks and we’re out of them again. I have to order some more,” said Kevin.

A mouse, earlier….probably waiting for you to leave the door open, the cheeky rascal!

“Since October we’ve seen a massive rise in the amount of mouse traps sold. We’ve rodent repellents also and we’re selling a lot of them as well,” he said.

“I’d say it’s the weather that is causing so many of them to go inside after what was a very good summer and mild autumn,” said Kevin.

“We’ve also sold a good few rat-traps as well. We’re hearing stories everyday about people having trouble with them. Even those who say they’ve never had a mouse in the house before,” he said.

It’s a similar story over at Kellihers Electrical on Rock Street where Joe Cantillon in the store said they had sold “tonnes of them”.

I think the message is don’t leave the front door open this winter or you might have a few uninvited guests!
