The judges were impressed by the project’s creativity, clear messaging and well-executed marketing strategy.

Additionally, Bachelor of Business (Marketing) student at MTU Kerry, Solenn Cormery was awarded second prize in the video category for her cycling project, ‘Hello Pedlo’.

This initiative encourages cycling as an eco-friendly travel model to and from campus.  A special recognition award was presented to the students’ lecturer, Sheila O’Mahony, for supporting and guiding students with their projects.

Commenting on the awards, Mary Rose Stafford, Head of School of Business, Computing and Humanities said, “MTU’s win at these awards is a testament to the hard work and innovation of our students and staff. We are proud of their achievements and look forward to more initiatives that contribute to a greener campus”.

Sheila O’Mahony, Marketing lecturer added; “I’m very proud of our students for their success at the Smarter Travel Student Awards. It’s wonderful to see their efforts and creativity being recognised at a national level and it’s inspiring to see our students taking the initiative to promote sustainability and healthier travel habits”.

The Smarter Travel Student Awards are a third-level programme organised by the National Transport Authority that invites students to develop projects that promote sustainable and active travel modes to, from, and on campus.

The competition entries were judged by an external panel of expert judges, with the award ceremony taking place at the Lighthouse Cinema in Dublin on Thursday, 25th April.
