Seniors
Na Gaeil played St. Pats on Sunday in Round 4 of the Brendan’s League in a wet and windy Blennerville.
St. Pats scored on their first attack with a pointed free. This was duly cancelled out at the other end with a pointed free from Darragh Carmody. Wing back Colm Lyons made a foray up the field and fired over from 20 yards. On the 10thminute Ian McCarthy scored another good point for Na Gaeil.
Darragh Carmody had another pointed free for Na Gaeil. He quickly followed this up with a well taken goal after good approach work from Jamie Lowham.
Na Gaeil defence was playing very well and the St. Pats attack was finding it difficult to make any inroads. Close to half time the injured Stefan Okunbor was replaced by Kieran Donovan with Rob Murphy moving from wing back to midfield. St. Pats scored a point on 25 minutes to leave the half time score: Na Gaeil 1-04; St. Pats 0-02.
Na Gaeil were first out of the traps after the interval with Darragh Carmody putting over another pointed free. Na Gaeil kept the pressure on and scored the next three points through Mike Griffin, Ian McCarthy and Mike Griffin again. St Pats then replied with two well taken points of their own.
Dylan Seymour scored the final point of the game to leave the full time score Na Gaeil 1-09; St. Pats 0-04. Na Gaeil can be very happy with this very workmanlike performance.
Tadhg O’Neill was very solid in goal in the first half as was his replacement Timmy Culloty after the break. The backs were excellent in minimising their opponents scoring chances with Dylan Brazil and Colm Lyons getting through an amount of work. Seamie O’Neill, Stefan and Rob did well at midfield with Ian McCarthy, Cian Quirke and Jamie Lowham working tirelessly up front.
Team: Tadhg O’Neill, Dylan Brazil, Kieran Dineen, Paul Daly, Colm Lyons (0-01), Eoin Doody, Rob Murphy, Seamie O’Neill, Stefan Okunbor, Jack Carmody, Ian McCarthy (0-02), Cian Quirke, Darragh Carmody (1-03), Jamie Lowham, Mike Griffin (0-02).
