A NEW pedestrian crossing at Spa NS has made it much safer for children and families in the village.

Peter Lenihan, the school principal, had been pushing for this safety feature for many years. The crossing opened just a couple of months ago and it has already made a difference to the school children.

“It has definitely made things easier for the children and their parents, especially with the drop-offs in the mornings,” said teacher Valerie Linehan. “When the parents are dropping the kids off on their way to work they can just let them off across the road and they can safely cross, whereas before they had to cross the road in the car and pull in, so it’s all run more smoothly and safer.”

Not alone is this a safety feature for the children and parents of the school, but for Churchill GAA supporters going to matches held in the local pitch and others using the amenities in the area.

The ‘Zebra’ crossing came about due to the collaboration of Boyle Homes and Developments Ltd, the Village Green residents, Mayor of Tralee Mikey Sheehy and his Councillor colleagues, and Kerry County Council.
