IT’S been a hectic day for the new Rose of Tralee, Sinead Flanagan.

The Limerick woman began the Wednesday with a number of media interviews and a photoshoot in the Town Park and was still reeling after her name was announced as the winner at the Dome last night.

The 27 year old junior doctor happily posed for photos with children and adults and described how she was feeling the morning after. “It was fantastic, it’s still sinking in but I haven’t had time to process it yet,” said Sinead.

Sinead is familiar with Tralee as she spent a lot of time in Kerry during summers growing up. One of her aunts, Esther Hutchinson, has a house in Cromane. She said she visited the festival as a child and loved the parades and the atmosphere. She was also impressed with the town and its people.

“We’ve been treated like royalty around Tralee and I’ve had a fantastic experience over the past number of days,” she said. Asked if she would recommend applying to be a Rose she said “if anyone’s thinking about it, just do it!”

Sinead is now looking forward to the year ahead and while she won’t be taking the year off from working as a junior doctor, thanks to short-term contracts she will be doing a bit of travelling during her year as Rose of Tralee.

And with that, she was whisked off for a day of engagements and interviews. She better get used to all the attention and photographers over the next year!
