Kerins O’Rahilly’s 1-9

John Mitchel’s 0-7

EXTRA time was needed to separate these two local rivals in a replay of the Town Championship semi-final replay at a sunny Strand Road on Sunday afternoon.

A late goal in extra-time put the sheen on the result for Rahilly’s after a battling Mitchel’s forced extra-time when they scored five unanswered points in the second half which included the equaliser.

This game was played without Kerins O’Rahilly’s five county men, David Moran, Barry John Keane, Tommy Walsh and U21’s Jack Savage and Cormac Coffey. John Mitchels were also without their Kerry U21 forward Niall Sheehy.

John Mitchels were a bit more wasteful in the match, kicking 11 wides while O’Rahilly’s kicked nine. Mitchel’s were also unlucky not to hit the net when on two occasions the ball was cleared off the blues’ line.

In truth the breeze into the scoreboard end had a big say in this match of precious few scores. There was only only three points kicked against the breeze between sides in normal time.

Kerins O’Rahilly’s welcomed the return of Danny O’Sullivan and Con Barrett who both impressed. Former Kerry minor, O’Sullivan, who has returned from Australia, kicked a point in the first half. Con Barrett won some good ball at full-forward and got a fortuitous goal late on when a 45 attempt dropped short only for Barrett to direct it toward the net.

All in all, the game was a good run out for both teams and a chance to blood young players as the season begins to rumble into action. Kerins O’Rahilly’s will now play Austin Stacks in the Town Championship final in Ballymac.
