THE Status Orange wind warning for Kerry and other counties has been extended until 4am on Tuesday.
Kerry County Council has advised people to take precautions ahead of strong winds and gusts which are forecast for Kerry this afternoon and evening.
The warning was initially valid until midnight but Met Éireann has now extended the period.
Southwest to west winds will reach mean speeds between 65 and 80 km/h with gusts between 110 and 130 km/h today.
There are also warnings of exceptionally high waves in coastal areas reaching heights of up to 15 metres. This Status Yellow warning is in place until 4am tomorrow also. Exposed coastal areas should be avoided.
The local authority is asking property owners to be conscious of items and hoardings which are vulnerable to high winds and urges motorists to take care on roads today and tonight.
