Over 850 New COVID Cases In Tralee Area In Fortnight Up To Monday

THE number of new COVID-19 cases more than doubled in the Tralee Local Electoral Area in the 14 day period up to Monday, March 28.

There were 857 new confirmed cases in that period compared to the 399 in the fortnight up to Monday, March 14, according to figures available on the Government’s COVID-19 data hub.

Tralee LEA has a 14-day incidence rate of 2,594 per 100,000 of the population, far above the national incidence of 1,871 per 100,000 as of last Monday. It’s by far the highest rate in the county.

The incidence rate in Kerry is 1,987  per 100,000, the 13th highest county in the country. In all, there were 2,936 new cases recorded in Kerry during the fortnight period up to Wednesday.

The Corca Dhuibhne Local Electoral Area saw 293 new cases and a rate of 2,066 per 100,000. The Castleisland LEA saw 343 new cases and a rate of 2,000 per 100,000.

Killarney Electoral Area saw 591 new cases, a current 14-day incidence rate of 1,996 per 100k of the population.

Two LEAS in Kerry have incidence rates below the national average. Listowel LEA saw 495 new cases and a rate of 1,726 per 100,000.  The Kenmare LEA had 366 new cases, a rate of 1,460 per 100,000.

The total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Kerry, since the pandemic began according to the latest data up to Wednesday, March 30, is 35,661.

  1. 857 new confirmed cases and how many deaths!
    Of course, the vaccine will be given the credit as the large cohort of frail people in the care homes were wiped out in the first wave. Hence, ever decreasing deaths.

    The virus has already adapted, for it’s own survival not to kill its host and live on just like the common flu and numerous others have done before with our ancestors.
