A CHEQUE for €2,100 was presented to the Palliative Care Unit at University Hospital Kerry on Thursday in memory of a south Kerry man who passed away last week.
Michael Galvin lost his battle against cancer on Wednesday last at the hospital, but family members — sister in law Carmel and his niece Brenda— were on hand to present half the proceeds from events at the annual St Crohan’s Festival in Castlecove back in July.
The other half of the proceeds were donated to the Irish Heart Foundation in memory of Jimmy Breen.
The presentation took place during the sixth annual Palliative Care Week taking place around the country from September 8 to 14.
The week aims to raise awareness of the difference palliative care can make to people with a life-limiting illness or condition, to carers and to families throughout the island of Ireland.
