Debra Ireland supporters Sarah Clancy and Liz Collins are asking walkers to join them for this year’s inspirational Kerry Challenge from May 18th to 20th.

KERRY work colleagues with walking boots are being sought for an inspirational three-day adventure in the Dingle Peninsula, where the fun will help raise vital funds for butterfly skin charity Debra Ireland.

Running from May 18th to 20th, ‘Debra’s Kerry Challenge’ includes three days of trekking though the beautiful Dingle Peninsula (up to 25km per day) followed by nights of craic in lively Dingle pubs while staying in a four-star luxury hotel.

“The Kerry Challenge is like being invited to an awesome family wedding, it is an event that has real heart and soul and it is ideal for groups of colleagues to really do something different for a weekend,” said Debra Ireland’s Head of Fundraising Judith Gilsenan.

Debra Ireland supports people with EB (epidermolysis bullosa) also known as butterfly skin.

This rare and incredible painful genetic condition causes the skin, both inside and out, to blister and wound at the slightest touch.

Debra’s 75km three-day trek, is suitable for everyone from seasoned runners to first-time ramblers.

“Along with the craic, people find huge inspiration when they meet EB patients such as Debra’s patient ambassador Emma Fogarty, and discover their huge courage living with this very distressing condition,” said Judith.

The event costs €300 per person, which includes two nights’ accommodation in the four-star Dingle Skelligs Hotel, all meals and snacks, transport to and from the route each day, on-site physiotherapy and thea celebratory dinner and prize giving.

Participants are also asked to raise a further €350 for the charity, which provides support services for those living with EB.

“This is a brilliant weekend for meeting new people and bringing people together, work colleagues, couples, singles and seniors are all welcome,” said Judith.

“It’s a fantastic way to make new friends while taking in the beauty of the Wild Atlantic Way and all proceeds from the event go towards helping people living with EB.”
