IT was an amazing weekend of fundraising at Ballyseedy Home and Garden Centre as the Kerry Branch of Down Syndrome Ireland (DSI) hosted the inaugural Unsung Hero charity cycle.
Over 25o cyclists gathered there on Saturday morning and set off to west Kerry to pay homage to renowned explorer Tom Crean and also to remember DSI Kerry member Emily Keohane who sadly passed away last year.
“It’s been absolutely superb,” said Madeleine Doyle, PRO of Down Syndrome Kerry on Sunday afternoon. “The generosity of people over the last two days has been mind-blowing. Everyone who cycled gave a donation and we’re overwhelmed by the reaction. This is only going to get bigger and better.”

Madeleine thanks everyone who made the weekend such a great success, especially all at Ballyseedy.
For those not cycling, Ballyseedy Home and Garden Centre and DSI Kerry hosted a fun filled day of family entertainment and food for everyone on both Saturday and Sunday with bouncy castles, face-painting, magic shows, BBQ, pony rides and more.
A host of sporting stars took part including former Irish rugby player David Wallace and Kerry football stars Aidan O’Mahony, Daniel Bohan and more.
The cycle marked the official partnership announcement between Tour De Munster and the Munster branches of Down Syndrome Ireland as the main beneficiary of the 2018 Tour de Munster charity cycle, which has raised over €2.5 million for its beneficiaries since its inception in 2001 and takes place every August.
