THERE were early sightings of Roses on Wednesday evening for the annual twinning of the Roses with pubs.
The 2014 Rose of Tralee, Maria Walsh, was on hand to do the honours in the Fels Point Hotel on Wednesday where pubs found out which Roses, their families and supporters they would be hosting at the Festival in August.
There were also some of this year’s Roses present before heading off to Killarney to enjoy an evening’s racing.
Not unlike a World Cup draw, each of the pubs are put into a bowl and drawn at random and then a Rose is selected for each establishment.
Some pubs however are exempt from the draw because they have a long running relationship with Rose delegations. For example the Sportsfield Bar have close ties with Toronto and Kirby’s Brogue in with New York.
The Tralee pub has always been an integral part of the Rose of Tralee festival and the twinning of pubs with Roses is an important link between the two.
The 2015 Rose of Tralee Festival is now just one month away. It will run from Friday 14 to Tuesday 18 of August.
