IT was no doubt the realisation of a life long dream for a Blennerville man at the Redhead Convention in Crosshaven this past weekend as he walked away with the honour of being named the ‘Irish King of Red Heads’.
Alan Reidy was the man to claim the prestigious prize in the sixth year of the competition and with a head full of fro’ like his, it’s not difficult to see why he won.
The event is not just a bit of fun however, it is also being used to raise awareness of the Irish Cancer Society’s Sun Smart campaign, which is educating people about the risks of skin cancer (See more here).
He shared his royal duties on the day with the winning Queen of the Red Heads, Fermoy Rose Gráinne Keena. They then led the parade of up to 500 people down the town and no doubt off to celebrate long into the night.
Alan, you can now tick that one off the bucket list.
