PUPILS at Caherleaheen got to grips with maths in a fun way this week.

The school is taking part in Maths Week and everyone was really enjoying themselves when we visited the school hall, which was awash with colourful outfits with pupils taking part in maths-related activities.

It’s been a big effort on the part of the pupils according to teachers Mary Connolly and Claire Murphy.

“Maths and Literacy are the two main subjects that have been pushed by the Government over the past few years, so we decided to make it all about fun,” said Mary.

“Fourth and Sixth Class pupils got involved and spent two weeks preparing, incorporating art into it by making cards, hats and games,” she said.

“We had three different levels of a Maths Fair; the infants, the middle level of first second and third classes and the seniors of fourth, fifth and sixth. They explored measurements, capacity, data, weight, tables etc,” said Claire.

The sixth class pupils also baked and sold their wares in the hall and after the games, the pupils left with sheets and activities to do in the classroom and for homework.

Each student also brought €2 to play the games and also raise funds for the school.  The school also thanked the parents for their support with the event. Scroll down for photos…
