PHOTOS: Causeway Students Honoured At Annual Awards Night

THE annual student awards ceremony for Causeway Comprehensive School was held on Tuesday in the school, a night which is always the culmination of the hard work and dedication of the students.

The awards were presented by the school Principal Cathal Fitzgerald, previous principals of the school, as well as special invitees.

The guest speaker on the night was Mr. Séan Ryan, CEO of Aspen Grove, who gave a wonderful and inspiring speech to both parents and students.

There were a total of 140 awards presented on the night ranging from academic awards, extra-curricular to school spirit awards.

Students such as Niamh Brouder received the Senior Principal’s Award for outstanding student of the year in Leaving Certificate while Katelyn Diggins received the Junior Principal’s Award for outstanding student at Junior Cycle.

Megan Lynch received the Canon Willie O’Connor award for receiving the highest result in Irish in Leaving Certificate 2016. Laura O’Sullivan and Killian Horgan received the John O’Regan award for achieving outstanding results in the Leaving Certificate overall.

Hannah Grace won the Lucille O’Sullivan Award for overcoming many challenges in her six years of school, while Emma Lawlor won the Eileen Sheehan School Spirit Award.

There were many other individual student awards presented on the night including Sporting achievement awards, Attendance awards and Diligence and Achievement awards.

Recognition was also given to the Junior Girls Basketball who won two silver All Ireland medals this year, while the Camogie Senior team won the Munster Final.

Nathan Dineen and Shane McElligott received a special award for full attendance in five years at school.

The awards co-ordinator Timmy Leahy said; “It was a great night to celebrate the wonderful achievements of the staff and students of Causeway Comprehensive School”.

Principal Cathal Fitzgerald stated that it was a wonderful night for both parents and students and demonstrated the excellent teaching and learning that is in Causeway Comprehensive School.
