THE Christmas period wouldn’t be the same without the annual panto in Siamsa Tíre and this year is going to special yet again.
Oliver Hurley is the man at the helm and he’s promising his production of ‘Rapunzel’ will have songs, dance and no small amount of laughter when it hits the stage starting on Thursday, December 29.

We called in for a look at the dress rehearsal on Wednesday and it’s certainly going to be a colourful affair as always.
“We’re always looking at the productions which will appeal to children and adults and the Rapunzel story has very much come back with the ‘Tangled’ movie, so we’ve taken some songs from that. But it’s the traditional pantomime as well, so it’s all good fun,” said Oliver.
This is Oliver’s ninth time directing a Christmas panto and he’s got a super cast to work with.
“We’ve got a great cast with regulars like Tom Hannafin, Alan Teahan and more, but also newcomers like Maura Jones from Tralee Musical Society. There’s a lot of characters in it and more so than ever there’s a lot of audience involvement, thanks to the great script,” he said.
Tickets are selling like the proverbial hot cakes and they’ve had to add on two extra performances on Wednesday, January 4.
