KERRY Comhairle na nÓg put on a hugely impressive and entertaining ‘Reeling in the Years 1916-2016’ Fashion Show in The Ashe Hotel last Sunday night.
Around 30 teenagers took part in the show which took the audience on a time travel adventure through the decades from 1916 to 2016 with costumes, music and a brief synopsis of each decade in word and photo.
The show was complemented by some hugely talented local acts that performed between decades – Sean O’Keeffe, Laura Daly, Hannah Robson, Máirtín Ó Cathasaigh and Fuaimeanna Sliabh Luachra.
Kerry Comhairle na nÓg would like to thank them hugely for their fantastic contribution to the evening. Michael Healy-Rae came in at the start of the show to offer his support and wish the young people well, a gesture that was very much appreciated by the young people.
MCs for the night were comhairle members Unity Ankomah and Barry Sugrue, and DJ Donal Clifford provided the musical and visual backdrop.
Kerry Comhairle na nÓg is one of 31 local youth councils in Ireland which give young people the opportunity to be involved in the development of local services and policies.
It is designed to enable young people to have a voice on the services, policies and issues that affect them in their local area. Kerry Comhairle na nÓg is managed by Kerry County Council and coordinated by Kerry Diocesan Youth Service (KDYS).
Madeleine Frissung, KDYS Youth Worker and co-ordinator of Kerry Comhairle na nÓg said; “the comhairle members put on an entertaining, original and informative show to commemorate the actual anniversary of the 1916 Easter Rising and should be really proud of themselves. They enjoyed the show immensely and would like to thank everyone who came along to support them. They would also like to thank the Arts Council for their financial support of the event and local businesses in Tralee and Castleisland for the sponsorship of raffle prizes”.
