OVER 70 family businesses were represented at the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development (CEED) Family Business Conference in the IT Tralee on Thursday.
The event was designed to tease out what it takes to make a family business work and look at some successful second generation businesses that are thriving here in Kerry.

The conference which was titled ‘Design -Plan – Succeed – The Guide to a Successful Transition for Your Family Business, and was organised in association with the EU funded TRADEIT Food Producer Support Network and Tralee Chamber Alliance.
Attendees got the opportunity to learn from thought and family business leaders on their experience of family business, sharing insights and top tips for success during Q&A sessions throughout.
One of the day’s highlights included a panel of local second generation businesses who discussed their experience when taking on the family business and how design, planning and innovation is essential for success. These businesses included The Garvey Group, Ballygarry House Hotel & Spa, C.H. Chemists and Kerry’s Eye.
Twenty-five conference participants also took part in a ‘Design Thinking’ workshop led by Steve Conlon founder of Design Marketing Management to ensure they were armed with the necessary tools to plan for the future of their business and beyond.
