ST John’s Church was packed on Wednesday afternoon as nearly 220 Leaving Cert students from Mercy Mounthawk, joined by their families, attended their graduation ceremony.
It’s the first time since 2019 that the ceremony was held and a change of venue from St Brendan’s Church to accommodate the large numbers attending.
They proceedings began with an introduction by Head Boy Hugh Emerson and Head Girl Judith Waugh, followed by Mass celebrated by Fr Padraig Walsh, while the school choir also performed beautifully during the ceremony.

Then it was time for the presentation of certificates of graduation to students from the eight classes, before they filed out of the church.
“They were a wonderful group and they had a unique experience in second-level education over the past two years because of COVID. It was very challenging for them,” said Principal John O’Roarke, after the ceremony.
“It is marvellous to be back after two years with a graduation ceremony, because we have missed this opportunity to get together. I wish the students all the best for the exams in two weeks time,” said Mr O’Roarke. Scroll down for photos…
