AROUND 500 guests attended the retirement function for Chief Superintendent Pat Sullivan from An Garda Síochána on Friday at Ballygarry House Hotel.
He retired after over 40 years of distinguished service to the organisation, the majority of which was spent in the Kerry Garda Division.
Guests included Deputy Commissioner Donall O’Cualáinn, Assistant Commissioners John O’Mahoney, Fintan Fanning and Derek Byrne and many more people from the world of politics, sport and the business at the special coffee morning, where all proceeds from the charity event were donated to the Kerry Hospice.

Chief Superintendent Sullivan is a native of County Cork and has served throughout the country during his service. He joined the force in late 1974 and during his career served in Emyvale, Monaghan, Burnfoot, Henry Street, Letterkenny, Killarney, Caherciveen and Tralee.
Tralee-based Superintendent, James O’Connor described Chief Superintendent Sullivan as being “a man who showed great understanding and compassion for the welfare and wellbeing of the Garda members working with him”.
It was acknowledged much of this work was done behind the scenes in a modest and understated manner.
Assistant Commissioner John O’Mahoney referred to the fact that Chief Superintendent Sullivan “always had the interests of the Kerry people at heart”.
He described Chief Superintendent Sullivan’s work ethic as being “steely, determined and compassionate”.
Deputy Commissioner O’Cualáinn extended the regrets of Garda Commissioner Noirin O’Sullivan, who was due to attend but was unable due to unforeseen work commitments.
Deputy Commissioner O’Cualáinn described Chief Superintendent Sullivan as being a very straight and honest individual, who always provided his opinion based on his wide knowledge and experience.
As a member, his self motivation and policing gut instinct were consistent and second to none. His high energy levels, capacity for work and ability to work in a demanding environment were evident throughout his career.
All key speakers, paid tribute to Chief Superintendent Sullivan. He was recognised as a person with tremendous drive and commitment, who made a marked difference to the policing of the Kerry Garda Division. He was wished every success in the future.
He officially retires from the organisation on Saturday and does so with the respect and admiration of all who served with him.
His replacement has not yet been announced.
