FOR the second year running, Kerins O’Rahilly’s have taken the decision to put on their summer camp completely free of charge.
The offer has drawn over 170 children from the ages of 6 and 13 to pass through the gates of their Ballyrickard pitches this week.
“We made the move to open our summer camp for free last year and it was a great success, so we decided to do it again,” said camp co-ordinator Declan Quill.
“Every other summer camp you have to pay 40 or 50 euro, so we said, as a gesture to the community, we’d make our summer camp free” said Declan.
“We found last year that lot of the kids who drifted away from the club, we won them back over because of the camp and also we picked up a few new players which is very, very important,” Declan said.
“We’ve people from all over coming to the camp; kids from Dublin and Cork, along our own players and other clubs from around the town,” he added.
“As you can see it’s very well organised, all the coaches taking part are qualified coaches. If you look around the field you can see they’re all busy and enjoying themselves” said Declan.
“It’s a great thing to give a free camp to our members as well as other kids who want to try football” he added.
