Junior Griffin from Listowel is Chairman of the Kerry Badminton Association and has been involved in the sport for over 50 years. He said the night was a celebration of the year for the Kerry clubs and their achievements.
“They’re coming from all corners of Kerry for the night. From Listowel to Dingle, Killarney and Iveragh. There will be presentations for the county league and championships with the special merit award going to Mike Riordan from the Sneem/Iveragh Club,” said Junior.
While there were 25 clubs in Kerry some years ago, the badminton scene is still thriving in the county.
“We have 600 members playing senior badminton and about the same number playing in the juvenile section,” said Junior.
With the great atmosphere on the night amongst the members present, the future of the sport is secure for years to come.
