CURRENT and former students of Mercy Mounthawk were honoured on Saturday for their excellent results in the State exams this year.
Nine students from the Leaving and Junior Cert were honoured, but two couldn’t make it on the day.
High achievers in the Leaving Cert were;
• Shane Walsh from Ballyroe who achieved 613 points and is now studying Finance at UCC
• Eoghan Ó Buachalla from Ballyard who achieved 601 points and is now studying Medicine at UCC
• Ciaran O’Reilly from Mounthawk who achieved 590 points and is now studying Maths-Science at UCC
• Philip McCarthy from Ardfert who achieved 589 points and is now studying Commerce at UCC
• John Holmes from Kerries East who achieved 589 points and is now studying Engineering at UCD

High achievers in the Junior Cert were;
• Keela Hughes from Tralee who achieved 9A grades
• Kate Waldron from The Spa who achieved 9A grades
• Kieran Collins from Clogherbrien who achieved 8A grades
• Isobel Keane from Listowel who achieved 8A grades
“Every year we run this occasion so that, as a school, we take time to recognise true excellence,” said Deputy Principal, Pat Fleming. “These students have all achieved the highest standard in their State exams last June and we feel it is important to mark that. Very often these are the students who get about their work with little fuss but with great admiration to succeed.”
“Today is an acknowledgement also of the tremendous dedication of the teaching staff at our school. It is appropriate in the week when we had World Teachers Day to mark their achievement also. Good work comes with good teaching,” he said. Scroll down for photos…
