St Brendan’s Board League Final
John Mitchels 1-7
St Pat’s 0-7
IT proved to be a happy Easter for the Boherbee side of town on Good Friday, as John Mitchels beat St Pat’s to collect the St Brendan’s Board League trophy at Caherslee.
On a day where good football was as scarce as a legal pint, the green and gold side’s superior second half put paid to the Blennerville men’s challenge.
The first half was a dour affair with both sides struggling to find scores. It took Mitchels 12 minutes to register the first score from Ciaran Singleton.
This was cancelled out by Breandan Savage two minutes later. The sides both scored two more points each before the short whistle leaving it at 0-3 each going into the dressing rooms.
Mitchels took the initiative in the second half early on with Alan O’Donoghue scoring one and setting up two scores in the first 10 minutes.
The killer blow for St Pat’s came when Mike Deane hit the back of the net for Mitchel’s to leave the score St Pats 0-03 Mitchel’s 1-06.
St Pat’s pulled two points back from Joe Costello and Kieran Hurley but they proved to be consolation scores as John Mitchel’s Sean Moloney scored a free to confirm victory.
A deserving win for John Mitchels then, with Alan O’Donoghue the Man of the Match and captain Laurence Bastible collecting the seniors first piece of silverware for the season.
