HUNDREDS of Tralee teenagers began the Leaving Cert and Junior Cert exams yesterday so we visited Mercy Mounthawk, Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí and Presentation secondary schools to gauge the mood of the students as they left the exam rooms.
The first hurdle to leap was English Paper 1 which began yesterday morning at 9:30, finishing at 12:30.
“It was fine but it was a horrible paper,” said Presentation students Danielle Pearse and Lesley McCarthy “it was strange, it wasn’t what we practiced, but it was grand in the end!”
Sitting the exam in Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí was Anna Ní Mháinséal. “The essay titles were a bit strange but once we got into they were alright,” she said.
Sitting the Junior Cert in Mercy Mounthawk were Ori Beqaj and Lekan Adebeuo. “I wasn’t nervous last night it only hit me this morning,” said Lekan. “Some parts were tricky, but I got past them I’d say,” he added.

“I was really nervous this morning,” said Ori Beqaj. “But the questions weren’t too hard, they were alright and I wrote as much as I could.”
Jordan Quinlivan, Sarah Hoare and Rebecca Poultney in Presentation were nervous at first but soon got into it. “The nerves were mostly this morning but once we started it was fine,” they said.
There will be 12 more days of examinations where nationally more than 120,000 students will sit exams in 5,000 centres around the country. Scroll down for photos…
