OVER 150 people attended the 15th year of the annual Active Retirement party at the John Mitchels Clubhouse on John Joe Sheehy Road last Saturday.
The frosty morning and hazardous driving conditions did not deter the volunteers from reporting to duty from early morning as floors were brushed, carpets hoovered and tables and chairs were laid out with military precision.
The Christmas decorations were already in place thanks to some of the Bingo volunteers and as people arrived at 12.30pm they were greeted by a glowing fire and the waft of turkey and ham cooking in the kitchen.
The delicious traditional Christmas dinner, cooked by chef John Seymour and his assistant Pat Roche, was enjoyed by all.
Afterwards, Santa took time out from his busy schedule to attend the party and numerous spot prizes were raffled and given out with the O’Shea Brothers, Michael Gaffney and Derry O’Shea providing the music for the day.
The whole event could not take place without the army of volunteers and the generosity of the many sponsors from the Community. The following businesses supported the event: O’Donoghue’s Chemist, McElligott’s Undertakers, Lee Strand, Students Union IT Tralee, O’Mahonys Bakery, Lidl, David Powers Butchers, Waddings, O’Sullivans Butchers, Geraldine Cronins Hairdressers, Munster Bar, Every Occasion Florist, Flowers by Ann, Dunnes, Tesco and Gallys.
