GAELSCOIL MHIC EASMAINN was in celebratory mood on Thursday for a visit by President Michael D Higgins and his wife Sabina.
Hundreds of schoolchildren greeted the president who stopped off at the school – which is named after Roger Casement – before going to the 1916 State commemoration in Banna.
While there he spoke to children and staff about the sacrifices of Roger Casement and the men and women of the 1916 Rising.
The President and wife Sabina, were in jovial mood and joined the children in song and dance as they were about to depart and received presentations from the pupils.
Leaving for Banna, around 20 motorcycles escorted the President’s car as children and onlookers lined the route waving tricolours to see them off. Scroll down for photos from the day…
