NEARLY 200 children from 27 primary schools in Tralee, Castleisland, Killorglin and the surrounding areas competed on Sunday in the Tralee Credit Union Noreen Lynch Annual Schools Quiz 2015 at the Ballyroe Heights Hotel.
“We had great support again this year from all the schools who battled it out for the fun filled action packed two and a half hours,” said Suzanne Ennis, Marketing and Development Officer with Tralee Credit Union.
“Our thanks to all the schools, students and their families and of course to Tralee Credit Union’s board and staff for making this event one of the biggest events on the school calendar,” added Suzanne.
It was very tight scores between all the schools but at the end there were clear 1st place winners in both the under 11s and under 13s categories.
After 10 rounds in the under 11s with 20 teams battling it out, Scoil Mhuire, Killorglin were clear winners with 51 points out of 60 with Ardfert and Scoil Eoin Balloonagh schools both receiving 47 points out of 60, bringing them into a tie breaking round.
Ardfert National School won the tie break giving them second place and Scoil Eoin Balloonagh 3rd place.
In the under 13s category, after 12 rounds with 29 teams, Spa National School were clear 1st place winners with 67 points out of a maximum of 72 points with Ardfert and Holy Family schools both receiving 63 points.
After two tie-breaking rounds Ardfert National School took 2nd place and Holy Family National School 3rd place.
Each team were presented with goodie bags, with the winning teams and their schools each receiving trophies and cash prizes.
Both 1st and 2nd place winners in both age categories the under 11s and under 13s will now go on to Chapter round of the national schools quiz on Sunday, March 1 in Ballyroe Heights Hotel.
