A LOCAL writers group held a special event in The Abbey Inn last night to encourage local singer/songwriters, poets and writers to take to the stage to air their work.
The Thursday Night Writers Group started last summer and meet weekly upstairs at the Abbey from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. They decided to put on something different last week and held the open mic night on Friday.
“We’re writers, poets, songwriters, screenwriters and we meet each week to share feedback and it’s a social gathering as much as a writing group,” said Barbara Lovric from the group. “Tonight we decided to expand it to the general public and ask everyone artistically inclined to come down and give a performance. It’s just an alternative thing to do on a Friday night,” said Barbara.

“I’m delighted with the turnout tonight and hopefully we can build on this and hold another event in the near future. I think Tralee is looking for something different. If you’re going to the pub, why not go to the pub and listen to great writing or great singing,” she added.
