Town League Final, Austin Stack Park
Austin Stacks 0-12
Kerins O’Rahillys 1-6
AUSTIN STACKS claimed another title as they beat Kerins O’Rahillys in the Town League final in Austin Stack Park on Saturday evening.
There were glorious conditions for football as these two sides matched up again.
Back in January, The Rock beat O’Rahilly’s in the final of the town championship final which had been moved forward because of Stacks Munster club commitments late in 2014.
The win marks back to back town league titles for Stacks, with three titles in total out of five years.
By the end of the first half, O’Rahillys went in one point to the good the score, 0-5 to 0-4.
On resumption of the second half, it wasn’t long before Stacks pulled O’Rahillys back. Denis McElligott, the scorer after three minutes, following up on good work by Conor Jordan and Pa McCarthy.
Although, it only took a further three minutes for Strand Road to get themselves back in the driving seat when Kerry U21, Cormac Coffey, netted impressively.
Unfortunately for O’Rahilly’s, they couldn’t kick on from this position and indeed only scored one solitary point for the remainder of the game, coming from a free in the dying moments of the match.
The root of O’Rahillys demise came ten minutes into the second half when the Blues went down to 14 men when Danny O’Sullivan was sent off. Austin Stacks wasted no time and immediately capitalised on their numerical advantage by knocking over no fewer than seven points without reply.
Those scores came from David Mannix and Wayne Guthrie with two each and one apiece registered by Fiachna Mangan, Sean Ryan and Pa McCarthy.
The victory for Austin Stacks was dedicated to the memory of their late clubman, Teddy Brick, who died on Good Friday.
