THE first county league meeting of Austin Stacks and John Mitchels in 13 years ended with one point win for The Rock in Ballyseedy by 1-9 to 0-11.
The wind played a significant factor in the game with Austin Stacks benefiting from the gusts in the first half.
Shane O’Callaghan goaled in the first half which helped his side into a 1-5 to 0-4 lead at halftime.

On resumption, a David Mannix point put The Rock five in front, but the response from Mitchels was impressive.
They outscored Stacks by seven points to three for the remainder. At one point hitting four in a row – two points each coming from Shane O’Connor and Alan O’Donoghue.
Those scores drew Mitchels level with eight minutes remaining.
Jack O’Shea, returning from injury, nudged Stacks in front once more and Conor Jordan added another soon afterwards to put The Rock 1-9 to 0-10 in front, heading into the home straight.
Try as they might, Mitchels could not find a leveller, though they did get one score in added time but it was not enough.

If Austin Stacks win their last three games, Kerins O’Rahillys (H), Kilcummin (H) and Templenoe (A) they will be guaranteed another County League final spot.
Another loss means Mitchels languish third from bottom in the table. To remain they will most likely have to win their two remaining fixtures against Dingle (H) and Kerins O’Rahillys (A). Scroll down for more photos…
