CHURCHILL GAA folk gathered in The Oyster Tavern on Friday night for the annual race night fundraiser.
The event is one of the main fundraisers of the year for the club.
“We’ve been doing this for around ten years. It’s been very well supported with over 200 horses sold. We have about 25 sponsors on the night,” said Stephen Buttimer of the club.
The club’s season is coming to a close with just one match remaining on Sunday away to Castlegregory.
“We’re playing our last match in the county league Division 4 on Sunday. We still have a mathematical chance of promotion if we win but it’s down to other results. It’s a long shot to use horsing parlance but we’re still in it at this stage,” said Stephen.
It was also an occasion to honour Ivan Parker who won a Munster and All-Ireland medal with Kerry (the first for the club since Seamus Griffin in 1946) and Eoin O’Brien who was a member of the minor panel for the Munster championship.
