Recovery Haven To Hold Open Day This Weekend

TO mark World Cancer Day this weekend, Recovery Haven Kerry will open its doors to the public this Saturday morning, February 3, to showcase the range of free services it offers to those affected by cancer.

From 11am -1pm, the public are invited to visit the cancer support house at 5 Haig’s Terrace, Tralee, where they can meet with staff and volunteers and learn more about the wonderful services available – from counselling and complementary therapies to support groups and information talks.

The latest statistics available from the Irish Cancer Registry (2014) show that in Kerry, 792 people were diagnosed with cancer.

According to the Irish Cancer Society, someone in Ireland is diagnosed with cancer every three minutes. The incidence of cancer is growing at a significant rate, with one in two Irish people expected to be develop cancer by 2020.

Recovery Haven Kerry offers a safe place to access information, emotional support and practical help for those on their cancer journey, so if you want to find out more then why not pop along on Saturday morning.

In 2017, there were just over 2,000 attendances to Recovery Haven Kerry centres in Tralee, Killarney and Killorglin – a record for the charity. In that time, the charity also provided 414 free counselling sessions to men, women and children, as well as 697 sessions of complementary therapies.

Recovery Haven Kerry continues to provide free complementary therapy sessions such as Reiki, Reflexology and Massage; we run a men’s and women’s cancer support group, bereavement support, arts and crafts, mindfulness courses, Pilates classes, walking groups, a wig clinic fitting service, HSE bra and prosthesis fitting service and information talks.
