A FILM by two Kerry-based filmmakers will be released online this coming Tuesday and features a well-known comedian from the county.
Ben Kavanagh from Tralee and Luke Murphy from Killarney created ’Meat Is Murder’, which is an independent short action-comedy written, directed and produced by the duo.
The film was shot in the summer of 2019, while Kavanagh and Murphy were in their second year of studying Film and Screen Media at University College Cork. The project was shot entirely in Cork City.
The film marks the first time the two have collaborated as directors and revolves around a world where the consumption of animal products is both illegal and taboo and a vegan SWAT-team plot the capture of an infamous meat-dealer named Peter Ash.
The script attracted an eclectic and talented cast, including Lorcan J O’Neill (Elkae – I Was Busy Working), online comedic sensation, Kerry’s Bernard Casey (Word of Mouth, Tradition) and acclaimed actor Joe Mullins (Pilgrim Hill, Glassland) in a rare comedic turn, as well as a supporting cast of promising up-and-coming performers.
The film is an action-comedy that builds the viewer’s suspense with danger before breaking it with humorous elements.
Whilst the main goal with the short was, first and foremost, to create an entertaining and engaging saga, the narrative also aims to showcase the extreme nature of political and social movements in today’s modern climate; how good causes can be used to justify tyrannical government behaviour.
So from Tuesday, if you click on this link www.facebook.com/MIMshortfilm2020 you’ll be able to watch it.
