Seniors

Match report.

St Brendans Park junior side made our return to the Kerry District League in Division 1B on Sunday last.

We faced Listowel Celtic B, a tough side in tougher weather away in Tanavalla and the Fealesiders were awarded a penalty on 12 minutes and went up 1-0.  We responded and were awarded a penalty of our own five minutes later and Mikey Burke equalised.

We pressed on from the kick off and Mikey netted his second to put us in front.  Our  midfield duo of Graham O’Neill and John Dineen were now running the show, contesting every ball and keeping our attack going. We continued to create chances,  especially with the pace of Aaron Ward down the left and Mikey soon completed his hat-trick before going on to notch his fourth before the break.

The second half saw us under a bit of pressure with the wind against us as Listowel started launching balls into our box, but some fantastic acrobatics from keeper, Jack Rogers kept us alive. However,  another through ball led to a mix-up in our defence and another penalty was conceded, which Listowel converted to make it 4-2.

The high winds remained a factor and saw us concede again as Listowel made some key changes.  At 4-3, we introduced Nathan O’Leary, who had played all his schoolboy and youth football with the club and was making a welcom return.

The year’s of coaching quickly told as Nathan made an instant impact and we settled down again with Mikey Burke netting his fifth after being played through by the influential number 10, Donagh O’Brien and we kept piling on the pressure, creating chances until Arron Ward killed the game off with a cool finish to make it 6-3.

Well done to all today.
